Another oldie from Sierra On-Line.
|
|
It was also the first installment of Space Quest to use Sierra's icon click
|
|
interface.
|
|
The game should run fine on DosBOX. I had problems with SQ4 in ScummVM
|
|
(crashing on vital locations of the game, rendering the game impossible to
|
|
beat). Perhaps my copy got damaged over the years (floppies were never such
|
|
a reliable storage medium anyway) but as a result I cannot (yet) recommend
|
|
ScummVM is a good way to play this game.
|
|
Let's just make a quick intro on stuff.
|
|
First, abandonware is no legal concept, so don't think a download from it
|
|
is legal. If you don't care about stuff like that, not my problem, but at
|
|
least you now know the way it is by law. If you know any place where the
|
|
game can be obtained LEGALLY, let me know I'd love to put it in my FAQ if I
|
|
can verify this to be a legal place to download/buy the game from.
|
|
Second, I'm not going to explain all icons. Mostly you can figure out
|
|
yourself which icon to use to perform a certain action. If stuff is really
|
|
odd on this, I'll name which icon you need, but otherwise, you can think of
|
|
it, don't ya?

Well, you are in the future somewhere on the planet of Xenon. The town is a
|
|
mess, and everything here is dangerous.
|
|
Best is to save right away as death is around every corner.
|
|
Very important is the "zombie" who wanders town. You never know where he
|
|
can pop up, but if he touches you he'll summon a killer droid that kills
|
|
you immediately (once the touch is done, you cannot prevent that anymore).
|
|
You'll have to forgive me I cannot cover that "zombie" in the actions you
|
|
must take, as he paces around randomly. If you see him, just take a walk
|
|
through the city and come back and hopefully it's gone then.

|

are dead)

= Stand in a sideway as close to the NS-corridor as you can and when

the slime passes you fill your jar with it.

= NOW TAKE A NOTEBOOK AND WRITE DOWN THE CODE YOU SEE ON THE DISPLAY,

= Now (as a quick way to get away from Vohaul's guards, I often press
|
|
the first keys from the top row from left to right and the first from
|
|
the left on the middle row. This will get you in Space Quest III.

Don't leave the pod, or you'll die.

= Just try any kind of combination at random now until you end up in
|

Space Quest X

= Press the red button on the left, to leave the time pod.

None of these items are needed for the time being though, and by the time

|
you need them you can still get them, though you can save yourself a lot of
|
|
trouble if you got them now.

|
Well, let's just push the red button on the left and get a view on where we
|
|
are.

*:> = You should see the silhouette of a young girl sneak away. The game
|
|
will note you have the feeling you are not alone here.

Now you'll be snatched by the beast and thrown into the huge nest

Now you'll be taken by Zondra and her girls. She's not pleased to see you

again (remember you are in the future, meeting these girls is something
|

that will happen in the future).

You'll be taken to Galaxy Galleria, the great shopping mall, and Zondra and

|
the other girls are only interested in one thing.... SALE.... Well, they
|
|
leave you alone now and you won't see them again. (Good riddance).
|
|
Now one warning. DON'T TRY TO LEAVE THE MALL. One of Vohaul's soldiers will
|
|
pop up and kill you if you try. So you are basically a prisoner of this
|
|
mall until you finished this part up.
|
|
Now the true adventure challenge of SQ4 finally begins ;)
|
|

happen before you can get into the actual puzzle to get this money

gentleman's clothing shop

at your disposal, which will happen eventually).

can happen pretty random, and if you do not follow this FAQ straightly,

it may get different also.

Now a silly mistake, the bikes oddly change color (at least in the EGA
|
|
version) when the bikers mount them. :)

Well before we continue, items you must have at this point are:
